Operation Christmas Child UK has announced that Markerstudy Group came to its aid at the 11th hour, offering the charity the use of its Gymnastics Club Kent building (formally NDGA), in Tunbridge Wells, for the storage and sorting of over 30,000 gift-filled shoeboxes in the run up to Christmas.
From today, the West Kent division will begin processing gift boxes with teams of volunteers in order to facilitate the mammoth operation, exporting them to 17 countries in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Africa, with the intention of supporting vulnerable children at Christmas. The charity are keen to garner support over the coming 6 weeks, both via donations and volunteers who would like to help.
Since 1993 Samaritans Purse have delivered more than 146 Million gift-filled shoeboxes to children through Operation Christmas Child.
Lizzie Smith-Foreman, Director of Marketing and Communications for Markerstudy commented: “As a business we’re avid supporters of charitable causes so when we heard that Operation Christmas Child had nowhere to sort boxes this year, we knew we absolutely had to help out. We’re thrilled to be aiding such a worthwhile initiative.”
Nick Cole, Director of Operation Christmas Child UK, commented:
“Essentially Operation Christmas Child is an enthusiastic community of local volunteer teams here in the UK and around the world. I’m delighted that Markerstudy, who passionately support a wide range of community initiatives in the Kent area, have chosen to spur on the local Operation Christmas Child group by providing such great premises to check shoebox gifts.
This will make a huge contribution towards our goal. Like Operation Christmas Child, Markerstudy is embedded in its local community and committed to making a positive difference in the world.”
