Greg Clark and Tunbridge Wells Mayor support Operation Christmas Child UK

Secretary of State and Tunbridge Wells MP, Greg Clark and the Mayor of Tunbridge Wells, Julia Soyke showed their support to Operation Christmas Child today at The Gymnastics Club Kent, Tunbridge Wells.

Operation Christmas Child UK announced two weeks ago that parent company, Markerstudy Group came to its aid at the 11th hour, offering the charity the use of its Gymnastics Club Kent building (formally NDGA), in Tunbridge Wells, for the storage and sorting of over 30,000 gift-filled shoeboxes in the run up to Christmas.

The West Kent division has been processing a record number of gift boxes with teams of volunteers after another facility in Chelmsford became unavailable for use last week. The charity undertakes a mammoth operation, exporting shoeboxes to 17 countries in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Africa, with the intention of supporting vulnerable children at Christmas. The charity are keen to garner support over the coming 4 weeks, both via donations and volunteers who would like to help.

Since 1993 Samaritans Purse have delivered more than 146 Million gift-filled shoeboxes to children through Operation Christmas Child.

Nick Cole, Director of Operation Christmas Child UK, commented: "We're thrilled that Greg Clark MP and Mayor Julia Soyke came to show their support as this is one of our biggest years yet for the West Kent area. Thank you to everyone who has supported us by donating a shoebox."

Lizzie Smith-Foreman, Director of Marketing and Communications for Markerstudy added: “As a business we’re avid supporters of charitable causes so when we heard that Operation Christmas Child had nowhere to sort boxes this year, we knew we absolutely had to help out, and are especially thrilled since their Chelmsford facility is also unavailable this year. Having a visit from Greg Clark MP and Mayor Julia Soyke was the icing on the cake!”
