There was no ‘lion around’ for Markerstudy’s Marketing and Communications team on 13th September when they undertook a volunteering day at The Big Cat Sanctuary in Smarden, Kent. After a health and safety briefing, the team, consisting of Lottie Heath, Alexandra Higgins, Hayley Spicer and Rowena Stanyer, were tasked with painting the wire of one of the tiger enclosures. They were supervised by regular volunteer, Peter (who took these amazing photos), and Narnia, the sanctuary’s white tiger, who spent her time napping nearby, safely behind bars.
Rowena Stanyer, Head of Communications for Markerstudy, commented: “We had the most incredible day volunteering for The Big Cat Sanctuary. Being able to support such a great cause and have the chance to work in close proximity with the beautiful animals was wonderful and the team made us feel very welcome. Markerstudy give us a day’s volunteering annually and it really was a privilege to be given this unique opportunity!”
Tanith Brown, Press & PR Officer at The Big Cat Sanctuary, said: “Volunteers who donate their time to the sanctuary are an integral part of the organisation’s day to day functioning. We couldn’t operate without them, we are eternally grateful to these brilliant people who kindly support both us and conservation.”
The team were treated to a tour of the site and introduced to the centre’s 34 cats, which include Willow the cheetah and Maya the jaguar, the stars of the BBC documentary, ‘Big Cats About the House’. The team is already discussing returning for another ‘purrfect’ volunteering day next year! For more information about The Big Cat Sanctuary, visit www.thebigcatsanctuary.org.
