As part of its Green Legacy Project, eight colleagues from across Markerstudy Group took part in a local volunteering day at Crow Plain Farm in Kent, in partnership with Treeapp, to help encourage biodiversity and create a more resilient, sustainable ecosystem in the local area.
The site is undergoing a rewilding transition, as land is taken out of production and natural methods are used to create a site that is a haven for local wildlife. To aid this initiative and rehabilitate the area, the Markerstudy team helped plant Aspen trees, with Dog Rose in between, to provide extra shelter for animals and birds, helping to restore the habitat and enhance the ecosystem.
Colleagues, including Lizzie Smith-Foreman (Chief Marketing, Communications and Sustainability Officer) and Martin Wills (Managing Director, Vision Vehicles), learnt how the farm is focusing on natural solutions that are in harmony with nature, helping to protect soil health and encourage biodiversity.
Lizzie Smith-Foreman comments: “As part of our Green Legacy Project we have pledged to restore 1,000,000m2 of degraded or at-risk area across the UK over the next decade, with the aim to help protect our communities, colleagues and customers from the effects of climate change.
The team had a terrific day meeting Jack, who is the fifth generation of his family to farm this land, and you couldn’t help but be inspired by his enthusiasm, dedication and knowledge. Initiatives like this are a practical reminder that progress towards sustainability doesn’t always require large‑scale projects, sometimes it begins with simple, purposeful contributions that make a difference - one tree at a time!”
